Acronis True Image Home 2009

Acronis has launched True Image Home 2009, an updated version of its imaging and backup software for home users.

The software, which allows users to create either image-based or file-specific backups so a machine can be restored completely in the event of a hard drive crash or operating system failure, now includes a one-click protection feature. This enables a backup to be set up and started with just one click.

Other new features include Smart Scheduling, which runs backups automatically at a specific time. Acronis Secure Zone, meanwhile, saves an image of the system to a special hidden partition on the hard disk. This can be accessed when the system is being restored using Windows' System Restore rollback feature to return a faulty PC to the last known good configuration.

Acronis True Image Home 2009 also has a Try and Decide mode. This puts the PC into a test mode so the user can trial installations and changes to system settings to gauge the outcome. There is also a disk-cloning function and a full text search for tracking down specific files.
