Acronis True Image 9.0 Over Symantec Norton Ghost 10?

The latest review coming out from PC World gave a slight edge to Acronis True Image 9.0 for it's price and new features. Symantec Ghost 10 gets good remarks for user-friendliness and easy-to-understand interface. Comparing these 2 system recovery applications, PC World selects Acronis True Image 9.0.

Acronis True Image 9.0 advantages:

  • Differential changes where new changes are added to one single backup file — unlike incremental changes that save separate backup increments and thus, take up more space on your external hard drive (a more tiresome process)
  • Files and folders backup option for backing up selected files/folders instead of an entire disk drive
  • Exclusive Active Restore feature for lightning-fast restoration

Recent past news also has the general consensus favoring earlier versions of Acronis True Image over Symantec Norton Ghost. An article from infopackets.com, a newsletter web site that unites computer consumers, provided the following response:

Responses have been strong, with about 60 opinions to date. Based on those opinions, the consensus is that Acronis True Image is ranked as the favorite recommendation, providing best overall feature set and the least amount of bugs and incompatibilities.

One important thing to realize however, Acronis True Image 9.0 is a standalone recovery application program. Symantec Norton Ghost 10 is a pricier standalone product but if you are willing to spend the extra money, you can get Symantec SystemWorks — an award-winning suite full of utilities that also includes Norton Ghost 10. Something worth considering before purchasing.
